Every holiday season we try to check out new places to get the whole family into the Christmas spirit. Like many of you, Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. There is something about Christmas lights, smells and snow on the ground that just makes me extremely excited.
This year, we are visiting a few new places around Denver and we started early by getting tickets for ICE! at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Denver.
We got to see classics like Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, The Peanuts, The Abominable Snow Man and so much more. My son really loved the ice slide and we had to literally carry him away from it. Even mom and dad got to slide down and have lots of fun.
Make the Most of Your Visit to ICE! at the Gaylord Rockies Resort
What is ICE at Gaylord?
It’s an ice sculpture exhibit that is created by 140 artisans from Harbin, China using 2 million pounds of ice!
Since the sculptures are created out of ice using different techniques, it takes about one month to create the exhibit. The ice is sculptured in freezing temperatures and the artisans take shifts creating the masterpieces.
The colors and details of the sculptures are breathtaking and perfect in every way!
In addition to the ice sculptures, there is also an ice slide for adults and children made completely out of ice. FYI: children need to be able to walk up the steps to go on the slides.
How does Gaylord ICE work?
You purchase tickets for your desired time frame. Once you arrive and check in into the Mistletoe Village inside the Gaylord Rockies Resort, you will be able to learn about the construction of ICE – which in itself is fascinating – and get an oversized warm parka for your visit.
After warming up there is a place for a family picture and you will walk into the show.
The ICE exhibit is self-guided. You walk through at your own pace.
I’d recommend going during the week and at the earliest time spot available. That is what we did and there were only a couple more families there. It gave us plenty of time to see the show and to avoid any crowds.
What to wear to ICE Gaylord?
Warm clothes are a must when you visit ICE at the Gaylord Rockies Resort. The exhibit is kept at a 9F temperature and can get pretty uncomfortable if you are not prepared. Specially for little ones.
Wear a hat, gloves, scarf and cold weather clothes and shoes. Snow boots are not necessary since the exhibit is carpeted, but warm, close toes shoes are a must.
Even though the show provides visitors with a parka at the entrance, it’s thin. You really need to wear a coat underneath.
If you are visiting with kids, it might be a good idea to dress them up in ski clothes specially if they are going to be going on the ice slide a few times. And don’t forget waterproof gloves to keep them safe.
How much are ICE tickets and parking at Gaylord?
Tickets for ICE at the Gaylord start from $13.99 for children over 4 and $24.99 for adults. Parking is available on the premises for $8 for 4 hrs.
Save money by purchasing tickets and parking online and by going during the week (value days).
If you purchase bundles for other Christmas activities at Gaylord, you will get up to 40% discount on regular prices.
And the resort offers considerable discounts around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so keep that in mind.
How cold is ICE at the Gaylord?
ICE is completely constructed of ice as the name implies. So to keep it looking great, the entire exhibit is kept at a 9F temperature.
What time does ICE at the Gaylord open and close?
ICE runs from November 22- January 5 and opens at 10am. Tickets run every 30 mins and you can stay as long as you want, but since it’s so cold inside, most people spend 30-60 mins per visit.
The last ticket spot is for 8:30pm.
Where is the ICE at the Gaylord Rockies located?
The ICE show is located at the Gaylord of the Rockies Resort in Aurora, Colorado just outside of Denver and close to the Denver International Airport.
Is ICE wheelchair and stroller accessible?
Yes, both are allowed and there is plenty of space to maneuver.
Is there a fast pass for ICE at the Gaylord Rockies Resort?
Yes, they are called Chill Pass and cost $10.99 and are sold at the box office only. You will be taken to the front of the line and given a complimentary hot chocolate. Totally worth it if you are attending on a busy day, have small children or just don’t want to wait in line. The hot chocolate costs half of the price of the ticket if purchased alone, so the Chill Pass is really a great deal!
Is there food available at ICE?
As you head out of the show, you will be able to purchase drinks and snacks (pretzels, cinnamon rolls, etc…) from vendors right at the Mistletoe Village. For more robust meals, there are several restaurants available at the Gaylord Rockies Resort.
