This year I am specially excited for Spring!
I know we have been really lucky this year with a very mild winter (unlike my Northeast friends), but I am super excited to start a few projects I have been planning for a while, like planting a vegetable garden and doing some DIY projects around the house.
I also can’t wait to see Spring flowers and that vibrant green of new leaves and grass!
In the spirit of Spring and re-growth, I decided it was time to try a new skincare routine with The Ordinary products!
For years now, I have suffered from hormonal acne, but for the last couple years I haven’t been able to do much about it. I was trying to conceive, then pregnant and breastfeeding. Now that I am able to try new products again, I have started treating my acne with Aczone (dermatologist prescribed) for my adult acne. Unfortunately, although I have seen some improvement on the frequency of my breakouts, I have not seen that great of an improvement on the appearance of my skin.
I have really tough skin- my husband says it’s like crocodile hyde! – which is both good (for protection against scrapes and aging), but also bad (acne just turns into lumps under the skin). My skin doesn’t break out often, but when it happens, it’s a major pain! The area builds scar tissue and turns into a rough dark spot that lasts for months.
Here is what my skin currently looks like after 12 weeks using Aczone and without makeup (gasp!) :
As you can see, it’s far from flawless! It’s bumpy, splotchy and the texture is starting to look like crumpled paper! You can also see scars from recent and old breakouts.
For these reasons and to address some early signs of aging, I am trying a new skincare routine with The Ordinary products.
The Ordinary
If you have not heard of The Ordinary, you need to check them out. This company is trying to change the beauty product landscape by offering products at a very reasonable prices. If that is not awesome enough, it also believes in creating ethical products free of nasties and without animal tests. Their guiding principle is to create “clinical formulations with integrity.”
Besides offering products at a great price and producing it with integrity, The Ordinary also provides amazing customer service! If you are like me and not very savvy into what beauty products you should be using, then all you have to do is email them and within 24hrs someone will answer your questions. As you can see from the horrible pictures above, I have multiple issues going on and needed a lot of help figuring out what to buy and use. I emailed them and after a day, received a customized regimen for my needs. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I just love when a brand has great customer service!
The products I bought were:
The Buffet: overall serum that helps with various signs of ageing.
The Alpha Arbutin: to help with hyperpigmentation.
The Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% : vitamin C to brigthen skin and treat uneven tone and dullness..
Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane: treats signs of ageing.
I was also recommended the Rose hip oil, but it was out of stock. It hydrates the skin and treats signs of photoageing. I will order it when it’s back in stock.
Additional products:
Besides these products, my daily routine also includes removing my makeup with micellar water and double washing my face with a Proactive facial soap. I have been using these products for months/years as a basic skin routine.
Per The Ordinary’s recommendation, I will be introducing a product at a time into my routine to prevent any skin reactions.
I am crossing my fingers that I actually see good results from this regimen and that I am able to give The Ordinary a glowing review in a few weeks.
If these products work, I will be stocking up and will become a client for life- of that, I am sure!
Shop these products!
Have you tried any of The Ordinary products? Have you suffered or are suffering from the same skin issues? If so, leave me a comment below and tell me if you have a miracle cure!
Until next time,
xoxo

How are you liking it? My skin looks a lot like your’s. I never had much acne at all until I turned 40.
Jana
I am loving it. It feels hydrated, plump and the bumps under the skin have decreased. I get fewer breakups. The only thing is that I haven’t seen a drastic change in the hyper pigmentation, but I am testing it for a couple more months before giving up.
With love from p
Ahh this looks great.. I’ve noticed lately that my skin isn’t what it once was. I would really yo try some products to rejuvenate my skin and reduce my spots. Hoping to give these a try. Great post.

I also don’t break out often but when I do it’s a mess. I’ve never been the type to use any product on my face but this was a very interesting. You honestly made me feel like I wanted to try it! LOL I started asking my mother what she uses and forwarded this blog to her.
Jana
Glad to hear it sparked an interest. Thanks for forwarding to your mom!

I love that you are having good results! I wanted to try The Ordinary because I heard their oils are very similar to the Biossance oils, but at a fraction of the price. But they have SO MANY products that I got completely overwhelmed. I ended up buying the primer–and so far I really like it. And the price tag 😉 I plan to try out more…it’s a fascinating company and concept!

I know, the only downfall of the brand is that it is a little hard to know what you need, but I found that both times I purchased from them and wrote their customer service, both times I got an answer within 48 hrs and the person was super helpful in giving advice for which products I should purchase for my skin conditions. I am ordering my next batch soon.
