This black beans instant pot recipe is simple and the building blocks for different variations. Here are a few:
Mexican Black Beans
Add the follow ingredients to make Mexican black beans in the Instant Pot.

Brazilian Black Beans
Making Brazilian black beans in the Instant Pot is a little different than making Mexican or Cuban black beans because you need to add some of the ingredients after the beans are cooked. Brazilian beans are more saucy so more water is needed.
- 1 smoke sausage cut into round slices
- 4-6 strips of thick bacon cut into lardons
- 1 medium yellow onion diced small
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- 2-3 tbsps of olive oil
- 2 additional cups of water
- Add the sausage and the extra water in the first step into the Instant Pot.
- When the beans are cooked, in a separate frying pan, add the bacon lardons, and let it cook until the fat mostly renders.
- Add the olive oil, onions and garlic and cook until translucent.
- Put this mixture into the Instant Pot, turn the sauté function on and let it boil for a couple minutes. Mash a few beans to thicken the sauce.
